Kleingrass is excellent forage for cattle, but in horses, liver damage can occur with long duration consumption. Grazing pure stands of Kleingrass hay or pasture can provide toxic levels leading to liver damage. Mixing Kleingrass with other hays and/or pasture species dilutes the toxicity levels that lead to liver damage. For additional information, go to http://plants.usda.gov/factsheet/pdf/fs_paco2.pdf.
